- Melissa Hoskins began cycling after being picked up as a part of the WAIS Talent Identification Program at the age of 15 and within three years had become an Australian Champion.
- Hoskins' first national title came in 2008 in the team pursuit, an event she has now successfully defended every year since. She went on to win the U/19 2009 Junior World Championship title, breaking the world record in the process in Moscow.
- She was a part of the Australian team that won bronze at the World Cup in Beijing in 2011.
- Hoskins and Olympic teammates Annette Edmondson and Josephine Tomic broke the world record in the semi-final of the 2012 Track World Championships. The record only lasted a few minutes as the British team broke the new record in their semi-final before going on to beat Australia in the final. Tomic also claimed silver in the scratch race, a non-Olympic event.
