  • Janine Murray grew up in Harare, Zimbabwe, where she took up rhythmic gymnastics as a 6-year-old because her best friend was doing it. In 2000 Janine commenced training under Bulgarian born coach Krasimira Yurukova.
  • In 2002 both Murray and Yurukova moved to Australia - Murray to Perth with her family, and Yurukova to Melbourne. Yurukova then moved to Perth in 2005 to take up the role of a Senior Coach at the WA Rhythmic Gymnastics High Performance Centre. Since then, Murray has trained with Yurukova.
  • Murray made her first senior Australian team in 2006, placing third in rope and ribbon at her first senior Australian Championships. She competed at the 2009, 2010 and 2011 World Championships. Her best individual result was in 2011 in Montpellier, France where she placed 40th in ribbon. Her best team result was in 2010 in Russia where the Australian team placed 19th.
  • She secured her berth at the 2012 Olympics by finishing the 2011 World Championships as the top ranked athlete from Oceania, earning a wildcard entry to compete in London.
  • At the 2010 Commonwealth Games Murray won gold as part of the rhythmic gymnastics team all around alongside 2008 Beijing Olympian Naazmi Johnston. She continued building for the London Olympics with an outstanding performance at the 2012 Australian Gymnastics Championships, taking the national title in the all around in addition to all four Olympic apparatus - hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon.
