- Having won every major competition with the number one ranked Kookaburras outside of Olympic gold, Fergus Kavanagh will line up in Australia's defensive line in a bid to complete his trophy cabinet.
- With only 11 caps to his name at the start of 2008, Kavanagh's strong play at the back saw him elevated to a regular position in the Kookaburras team. He played every game in Australia's bronze medal winning efforts at the Beijing Olympics, scoring a goal in the opening two games.
- He won his first Champions Trophy for the team in 2009, before going back to back in 2010, while also winning the World Cup and Commonwealth Games gold medal in Delhi.
- Now a recognised leader in the Kookaburras lineup, Kavanagh is nearing his 150th international cap which he will be hoping to bring up in London.
- Following his career in hockey Kavanagh is hoping to continuing travelling and pursuing a career in engineering in which he holds a degree.
