  • Since joining the Hockeyroos in 2007, Nelson has emerged as one of Australia's strongest scores. Nelson played in the silver medal-winning 2009 Champions Trophy team and was Australia's leading goal scorer in 2009 with 13 goals from 17 games.
  • At the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Nelson scored a crucial goal to put Australia ahead 2-1 in the final against New Zealand. With scores level at full-time, Nelson stepped up again and scored Australia's first penalty. The Hockeyroos went on to win gold.
  • The exceptional striker is co-captain of the WA Diamonds Australian Hockey League team. She has played for the Diamonds since 2006, winning the AHL title in 2006, 2007 and 2008. In 2010 Nelson was also the season's highest goal scorer.
  • Nelson grew up in a small country town called Wagin and attended boarding school for five years before settling in Perth. Along with playing hockey she has graduated from university and works as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Nelson competed in the Miss Universe Australia heats in Western Australia in 2011.
