  • Gemma Beadsworth began playing a modified version of water polo, flippa ball, at the age of 8 with her brother Jamie. The pair both play for Australia, competed at the Beijing 2008 Olympics together and are both set to return to Olympic competition in London.
  • Beadsworth played on her first national team at the age of 17 when she competed at the 2005 Junior World Championships where she won bronze. Her rise to the senior team was rapid, playing for the Stingers at the 2005 World Championships in Montreal where they finished 5th. She remained in the team as they improved to win the gold medal at the 2006 World Cup.
  • Beadsworth was the leading scorer at the 2007 Junior World Championships scoring 27 goals, including four in the final. Australia won the title and Beadsworth's performance did not go unnoticed as she was awarded the 2007 WAIS Junior Athlete of the Year award.
  • Making her Olympic debut in 2008, Beadsworth won bronze when Australia beat Hungary in a penalty shoot out. Beadsworth scored 9 goals in her 6 games and was crucial to the 8-6 victory over the Greeks as she scored 4 goals in the preliminary round game.
  • Beadsworth has since been a mainstay on the Stingers team winning silver at the 2010 World Cup, along with being named the player of the tournament, and medals at the World Super League Finals in 2008, 2010 and 2011.
