- Ben Cureton makes his third Olympic Games appearance in London having competed in Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.
- Cureton joined with Glen Loftus, Anthony Edwards and Simon Burgess in the lightweight four that finished a gallant second behind the powerful Danish crew at Athens 2004. In Beijing, he again competed in the lightweight four alongside Edwards, Rod Chisholm and Todd Skipworth, finishing 9th.
- At this debut World Championship in 2000, Cureton won bronze as part of the men's lightweight eight. Competing in six more World Championships campaigns since Sydney, Cureton went on to win silver in 2010 in the lightweight eight and then broke through for gold in 2011 with the lightweight four. The win was the first time Australia had won in the lightweight men's four since 1981.
- The same World Champion crew (Cureton, Skipworth, Edwards and Sam Beltz) that won gold in 2011 will now head to London, favourites for Olympic gold.
- Cureton began rowing at school at the age of 15. His coach at school was involved in the National rowing program and encouraged Cureton to pursue rowing at a local club after high school. In addition to rowing, Cureton has had success in triathlon and ironman.
