- Twenty-one-year-old Alex Hagan soared into contention for the women's eight thanks to her blistering form in the pair alongside fellow West Australian Hannah Vermeersch.
- The youngsters secured selection in their first Australian Team this year as part of the eight. They moved to Sydney for a five-week training camp at the Mosman Rowing Club in the lead-up to the 'regatta of death' in Lucerne and were billeted out to a family in Manly.
- Hagan and the eight travelled to Lucerne, Switzerland for their first ever international race in May. They secured Olympic qualification in style, winning the race and setting their sights on London.
