- Having made his debut against Thailand in 2011, it has been a meteroic rise for 21-year-old who with little over 30 caps to his name will play in the biggest tournament of his life in London.
- Smith played for Australia at the 2008 Youth and 2010 Junior Asian Championships while spending time as a member of the Australian Institute Sport domestic side. During this time he also represented Australia in beach volleyball finishing 5th at the Junior World Championships.
- Following his win with the AIS team in the 2009-10 season, Smith was signed by Linkoping and began playing alongside fellow Volleyroos youngster Nathan Peacock in the strong Swedish league.
- He played in his first major tournament at the 2011 Asian Championships where Australia finished 4th qualifying the Australians for the final Olympic Qualification Tournament.
- Smith was born in Jakarta, Indonesia.
