WAIS Pole Vaulter Angus Armstrong is one of 10 current Australian athletes appointed to the inaugural Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Athlete Advisory Committee (AAC).

Speaking on his appointment Armstrong said, “A good chance to represent Australian athletes in the shaping of Australian sport policy and influencing culture. It’s important that decisions about sport take into consideration the athlete, and so my role in communicating athlete needs and making sure they are understood is essential.

“My goal is to firstly learn as much as I can about this system and what goes on behind the scene. This will enable me to give the best and most relevant information regarding the athlete experience.

“As an emerging professional athlete that is yet to be established, I’m particularly passionate about making sure the transition phase is thought about and some solutions are created to retain the wealth of talent this nation possesses!

“It’s also a great chance to gain some experience on a board that will help me in my future career post-sport.

The Committee will be chaired by Olympian, Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist and Australian Sports Commission Board Member Steve Moneghetti.

“I feel extremely fortunate to be taking on the role of the chair of the AIS Athlete Advisory Committee and working with who I am sure will be the future leaders of sport in this country,” said Moneghetti.

“We have been able to assemble a very diverse group of athlete leaders who will all bring different skills, ideas and perspectives which is exactly what we set out to achieve.”
