WAIS Pole Vaulter Angus Armstrong jumped a new personal best of 5.65 metres at the final round of the Go for 2&5 season at the WA Athletics Stadium on March 7.

“I am very excited to see all the hard work coming together, looking forward to the last few comps of the domestic season,” said Armstrong.

“5.80m is the mark, it has been all year and it continues to be the aim – just waiting patiently for the right day!”

Heading in to 2020, Armstrong had a personal best jump of 5.51 metres set at the Jandakot Airport Track Classic in March 2019, a height he has improved multiple times in the past two months. A strong showing at the 2020 edition of the Jandakot Airport Track Classic saw him clear 5.63 metres on the same night Kurtis Marschall jumped the Olympic qualifier of 5.80 metres.

Consistent performances and strong competition within Australia have saw Armstrong again jump higher clearing 5.65 metres. With that bar clear Armstrong narrowly missed clearing 5.70 metres catching the bar on the way down.

Armstrong’s next goal had been to defend his national title at the 2020 Australian Track & Field Championships 21-19 March. With the postponement of the Championships due to the coronavirus he will continue training Perth.
