Commonwealth Games Stars Nominated for Top Award

Five representatives of Western Australia’s 2018 Commonwealth Games team have been nominated for the Lyn McClemonts Swimmer of the Year Award.

2018 Australian Dolphins team members Brianna Throssell, Holly Barratt, Blair Evans, Zac Incerti and George Harley are all in contention for the top award which will presented at the WA Swimmer of the Year Awards on May 26.

Brianna Throssell came away from the Gold Coast Games with a gold medal in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay and an individual bronze medal in 100m fly.

Holly Barratt on Commonwealth debut, earned a silver medal in 50m fly and was also fourth in 50m back final.

Competing in the 400m individual medley final on the opening night of competition, Blair Evans won an emotional bronze medal which she dedicated to her coach Bud McAllister. The Padbury resident was also fifth in the final of the 200m IM later in the meet.

Broome raised swimmer Zac Incerti collected bronze in the 50m back final, whilst George Harley at 19, made his first representative team for Australia and finished in fifth place in the 200m breaststroke final.

Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Katherine Downie will be a strong favourite to take out the Multiclass Swimmer of the Year, whilst her coach Matt Magee joins Mick Palfery and Bud McAllister on the shortlist for the 2018 Coach of the Year.

Palfery and McAllister are also in line for the Age Coach of the Year title, whilst City of Perth swimmer Simon Huitenga has been nominated for the Open Water Swimmer of the Year.
