WAIS swimmer Tamsin Cook has won a second medal from the 2015 Junior World Swimming Championships in Singapore after claiming silver in the 200m fly.

The 16 year-old competing in her first Junior World Championships, backed up her gold medal and junior world record feats from the opening day with another high quality swim for second place in the four lap butterfly final.

Clocking 2:08.86, Cook finished behind China’s Siqi Wang (2:08.24) and will have a rest day on day three, before returning to the pool for the 400m and 1500m freestyle events with the possibility of adding the 200m freestyle event on the final day following her success in the 4x200m freestyle on the opening day of competition.

Cook’s training partner and fellow WAIS scholarship holder Damian Fyfe set a huge personal best in finishing fourth in the men’s 200m freestyle final.

Fyfe had earlier bettered his previous personal best in setting the second fastest qualifying time for the final, before shaving more time off his mark, in hitting the wall in 1:48.90 for fourth place, in an effort that the 18 year-old admitted he was very pleased with.

“I am absolutely stoked, that is a massive PB and I just couldn’t be happier right now,” Fyfe said.

The pair is coached by Michael Palfrey who is in Singapore with the Australian Junior Team. The Championships run through to August 30.
