Jessica Moore talks tactics during the gold medal match

WAIS Indvidual Athlete Support Program athlete Jessica Moore has become the latest WA silver medallist with a second place finish in the women’s doubles whist fellow West Australian Matt Ebden secured bronze in the men’s singles on the final day of tennis action.

Partnering Olivia Rogowska, Moore took the court against fellow Australian combination Sally Peers and Anastasia Rodionova and a two hour contest took shape.

The number three seeded combination lost the first set 6-3 to their number one seeded rivals but they then fought back to claim the second 6-2 and force a decider.

Unfortunately for Moore and her partner their first serve deserted them in the third set, with the pair only managing to serve at 57%, a percentage that cost them in the fight for gold. In the end Peers and Rodionova secured the gold medal with a 6-3 win in the final set.

Later in the day Ebden took to the court against fellow Australian Peter Luczak in the bronze medal game and will return home with goods following a straight sets win.

Number three seed Ebden outclassed the number two seed Luczak 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 22 minutes, with eight aces and 20 winners crucial in determining the final outcome.
