Delhi2010 – Diamonds Cut Through to Semi Finals

Published On: 11 October 2010

The Diamonds have defeated Trinidad & Tobago 62 – 34 in the final match of pool competition in Delhi.

The Australians were never headed in the match but had to overcome some close body-checking by Trinidad & Tobago, the fact that the match was a dead rubber having no impact on the physicality of the game.

The 28-goal victory has ensured that the Diamonds head into Tuesday’s semi-final against England holding an unbeaten Delhi Games record.

WAIS scholarship holder Susan Fuhrmann again played an important role for the Diamonds in GK, against a tall attack. Fuhrmann is the sole WA representative in the Australian line-up.

The Australians will head into Tuesday’s match as favourites but no first hand the talent at England’s disposal with several of the country’s starting seven regulars in the ANZ Championship, including star defender Geva Mentor.

New Zealand faces Jamaica in the other semi-final with the gold medal match to be played on Thursday.
