WAIS gymnast Lauren Mitchell has earned a third gold medal from the 2010 New Delhi Commonwealth Games after winning the un-even bars individual final over night.

Mitchell true to form, displayed a fine routine which included the highest difficulty elements of anyone in the field, but her heart would have skipped a beat after a step out on landing left the door for gold ajar.

With teammate Georgia Bonora having competed earlier for a score of 13.925, Mitchell was left with a tense wait and was confirmed as the individual un-even bars Commonwealth champion after a score of 14.150 appeared on the board.

The bronze medal went to Canadian gymnast Lemieur-Guillemette, who posted a score of 13.350.

Mitchell will complete her Commonwealth Games campaign tonight when she competes in the finals for balance beam and floor. Mitchell was the highest ranked gymnast in the all-around final in both apparatus, and will be firmly favoured to extend her medal haul beyond the three gold she currently possesses.
