Western Australian archer Taylor Worth has won a Commonwealth Games gold medal after he and his Australian recurve team defeated Malaysia in the gold medal match off 219-212.

The Australians produced an assured performance in the final staking an early lead that they were able to protect for gold at the Yamuna Sports Complex.

Starting the competition with a ranking of fifth, not much was expected of the Australian contingent of Worth, Matthew Gray and Mathew Masonwells.

But after defeating Canada and then knocking out home heroes and top ranked India, Australia held no fear tackling Malaysia.

Despite a shaky mid-round, the Australian team re-grouped and finished strongly to take gold. The Australian flag was hoisted and the three men proudly wore their medals round their necks as the national athem ensured the fifth ranked trio were not dreaming.
