Diamonds Seal Clean Sweep of England Test Series

A crowd of nearly 10,000 were treated to the closest match of the Diamonds’ three-Test series against England, with the Australians holding out against England to win 45 – 41.

The England team put in a much improved performance, at one stage taking a two goal lead, before the World Champions steadied in the final quarter to finish four goals up at the final siren.

Acting captain Cath Cox played her 95th Test, making her the fourth highest capped Australian player ever. Cox played alongside WAIS scholarship holder Caitlin Bassett, who scored 17 goals in her one half for the Australians.

Amy Steel, the Diamonds youngest member, was named Player of the Match for her efforts at goal keeper.

Julie Corletto caused a scare for the Diamonds when she went down just before half-time but reports from the medical team indicate that she has suffered a corked thigh, with no further damage to her knee.

The Diamonds now begin preparations for a three Test series against arch-rivals New Zealand. The first test in Perth on October 23 will be the first clash between the two nations since Australia claimed its world championship title over the Kiwis in Singapore last July.
