WAIS scholarship athlete Luke Durbridge has earned selection for a third Tour de France campaign after Orica Green-Edge listed him on their nine-strong team for the 2016 edition.

The 103rd hosting of the Grand Tour will take riders across 3,535 kilometres of France from July 2 – 24, with the Manche region of Normandy set to host department.

The 25 year-old turned pro with Green-Edge in 2012, a year after he won a time trial, U23 World title at the road championships in Denmark.

Durbridge has since earned a strong reputation for being a versatile, team orientated cyclist, who adds specialist qualities in time trial stages.

Sport Director Matt White confirmed Green-Edge would target stage wins over the three week campaign and was confident this group had the ability to achieve its goals.

“We have a great degree of flexibility, experience and talent in the team for the Tour,” said White. “I am happy with the combination of riders and it gives us an exciting mix of options for the three weeks ahead.”

“Our objective is to target stage wins and we will be approaching every day like it’s a classic. We have a robust, versatile roster that can cope with the big effort required to compete and win in the Tour de France.”
