WAIS cyclists Luke Durbridge and Cameron Meyer have completed the Tirreno-Adriatico with the former capturing a top ten finish in the closing stage time-trial.

The seven-stage tour culminated with a 9.1km time trial, with Movistar rider Adriano Malori prevailing ahead of four-time World Time Trial champion Fabian Cancellara.

Durbridge displayed his own time-trialling capabilities to finish tenth in a world class field – 26 seconds behind the winner, in a top ten that also featured Bradley Wiggins in third, and another world champion in Tony Martin in fourth.

Durbridge’s fellow ORICA-GreenEDGE teammate Cameron Meyer also contested the event, recording the 49th fastest time, with the pair both finishing within the top 100 of the overall tour standings.

GreenEDGE Sport Director Matt White said that Durbridge was hoping for better despite the result in elite company.

“I know Durbo had hoped for a bit better in terms of results,” White said. “This course was probably a little too short for him. He doesn’t necessarily need a harder course, just something a bit longer.”

The Tirreno-Adriatico general classification title was won by Alberto Contador riding for the Tinkoff-Saxo team.
