Elite Talent Shine at WA State Swimming Titles

Western Australia’s elite swim talent have shown promising early season form with a series of impressive results at the WA Swimming Championships at HBF Stadium.

Brianna Throssell and Ashton Brinkworth both made big statements, with Throssell earning six individual state titles whilst Brinkworth took out the 50, 100, 200 freestyle combo en route to winning four individual titles.

Throssell kicked-off her program with victory in the final of the 100m free, finishing ahead of recent World Short Course multiple medallist Holly Barratt.

She added three individual titles on Saturday which included gold medals in the 50m and 400m free and the 100m fly. She returned on Sunday to add victory in the 200m fly and 200m freestyle finals.

Brinkworth’s impressive 2018 season saw him nominated for the WAIS Junior Athlete of the Year Award. With the talent not turning 19 until march, he showed plenty of promise that 2019 will be every bit as rewarding.

He picked up titles in each of the sprint freestyle disciplines whilst adding another in the 50m fly.

Barratt won three titles spread across each night of racing, which included the 50m fly on Friday, the 100m back on Saturday and the 50m back on Sunday.

Alex Milligan was another triple medallist, taking crowns in the 50m and 100m breast and the 200m IM.

Nic Brown – who made his senior Dolphins team debut at the World Short Course Championships in Japan late last year – collected dual state titles with victory in the 100m and 200m fly.

Blair Evans raced to a comfortable victory in the final of the 200m IM.

The Australian Swimming Championships will be held at the South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre from April 7-12.
