WAIS athlete Bassett has been in fine form for the Fever

A final quarter blitz has secured the West Coast Fever a second consecutive victory in the ANZ Championship after the Perth outfit out lasted the Central Pulse 60-54 in Palmerston North last weekend.

The Fever outscored the Pulse by 18 goals to 10 in the final stage, again led by the superb form of WAIS goal shooter Caitlin Bassett, who hit 41 goals at 84% to help the WA outfit to victory.

In a twist and turn match, the Fever clung to a two goal quarter time lead, before the Pulse through the skill of Paula Griffen took control in the middle stages for a two point lead at the final break.

The Fever looked fresher, fitter and faster in the last quarter, with Fever coach Jane Searle changing the line up to keep the pulse on alert.

WAIS athletes Susan Fuhrmann, Josie Janz and Andrea Gilmore all played telling roles, with Janz filling in at goal keeper in the last quarter to be particularly effective for the fast finishing Fever.

Fever’s next assignment is a difficult home fixture against the NSW Swifts at Challenge Stadium.
