Fever Look for Win Against Competition Leaders

Published On: 26 May 2017

The West Coast Fever head in to their final game of the inaugural Suncorp Super Netball competition, tomorrow night at Perth Arena, taking on ladder leaders the Melbourne Vixens.

Having won only two games so far this season the Fever will be looking to finish on a bang, defeating the competition fancies and sending ripples through the top four teams as they head into finals.

Last weekend the Western Australians took on Magpies Netball producing one of their best full 60 minute performances to date.

Fueled by a 7882 member crowd the Fever started strong sticking with their opponents to draw even at first quarter time.

The second quarter saw the Victorian visitors skip ahead taking a seven goal lead into the main break.

After the break the Fever hit back strong coming within a goal of the Magpies before eventually finishing the quarter at a four goal deficit.

Into the final quarter the two sides went goal for goal, neither making an impact on the scoreboard.

The latter half of the quarter saw the experience of the Magpies line up, including five members of the Australian Diamonds, come through as they pulled away to take the game by seven goals.

Despite the loss West Coast Fever Head Coach, Stacey Marinkovich was very impressed by the progression her team has been making in every game this season.

Fever Vice Captain, Verity Charles said “the amazing thing is we have everything we need in the team, the talent the skill, we just have to be able to execute for the full 60 minutes, and we are really close to that.”

A full 60 minute performance is exactly what the Fever will need this Saturday if they want to take the win over the Vixens.

Last time the two sides met in round four, the Vixens ran away with a n11 goal victory as a result of a few lapses in play by the Fever.

A key focus for the West Coast side throughout the season, they will be determined to not let this happen again.

Ahead of their final game, Fever Head Coach Stacey Marinkovich has other news to smile about as she was on Wednesday appointed the head coach of the Fast5 Australian Netball team.

In her first National coaching role Marinkovich will be hoping to lead the Australians to victory in the modified netball, Fast5 competition.

The Fever’s game against the Melbourne Vixens will commence at 6:45pm this Saturday evening at Perth Arena.
