Flame Debut Doesn’t Daunt de Rozario

WAIS wheelchair racing athlete Madison de Rozario has set her sights on enjoying herself, as she prepares to represent the Australian Flame for the first time at this weekend’s IAAF Athletics World Championships in Korea.

Next Monday, August 29, marks the one year to go until the London Paralympic Games and de Rozario is relishing the opportunity to compete as a member of the Flame team in Daegu, as she continues her quest towards competing at a second Paralympics.

Daegu up first however, represents a different challenge for de Rozario, as the talented youngster will compete in the T58 800m event in Korea, which is a class above the usual T53 events that she normally competes in.

de Rozario though, is looking forward to the opportunity to compete in the green and gold again, and for the first time as a member of the Australian Flame team, which is reserved for Australian track and field atheltes at World Championships.

“It’s a bit different in my event because I’m actually racing in a classification above the one I normally do,” de Rozario explained. “I normally race a lower classification so it might be interesting to see how it goes, so it’s not really an indicator for me.”

“This is my first time travelling with the team (Flame), but there’s a fantastic vibe, loads of energy and stuff and it’s been really, really great so far.”

The WAIS scholarship holder will be in action in the Daegu arena on September 3.
