Four WA Cyclists Selected for Junior Track World Championships

Western Australia will have four athletes in the Australian team for August’s Junior Track World Championships in Italy.

Cycling Australia announced its 15-member squad this week, which includes sprint duo Kye Bonser and Matt Richardson and endurance riders Jade Haines and Tyler Lindorff.

For Haines, Italy will be her second Junior Worlds campaign, having won a silver medal in the individual pursuit in 2016 and gold in a Maddison demonstration event. 13 of the Australian team will be making their representative debuts.

Selections were formed from an original long-team that was assembled following the Track National Championships in Brisbane last March.

That 21-strong squad was put through a series of training camps leading to this week’s final announcement, ahead of the titles to be held from August 23-27.

The selections carry on an impressive representative year for WA track cycling, after Sam Welsford and Cameron Meyer – both won world titles competing at this year’s senior World Championships in Hong Kong in April.
