GC2018 | De Rozario Named for Commonwealth Games

Published On: 18 January 2018

Madison de Rozario has secured her position upon the Australian Team for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games following an announcement in Melbourne on Tuesday.

The Australian Team’s Chef de Mission, Steve Moneghetti made the announcement at the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday morning, a fitting setting as the MCG played host for the athletics during the last Commonwealth Games held on Australian soil in 2006.

WAIS athlete, de Rozario was one of the first 14 of an expected 111 to be named as part of Australia’s athletics team for the Games.

Moneghetti said “this announcement is very exciting, it’s the first announcement of the year, so it makes the Games feel very real and close.”

“Given I have a strong connection with athletics, I feel extremely humble to welcome these 14 athletes on to the Australian Team for Gold Coast 2018.”

A successful finish to 2017 saw Madison come away from the World Para-Athletics Championships in London with a full set of medals, placing her in good stead for the upcoming Games.

After winning gold in the T54 5000m event, de Rozario continued on to win bronze in the 1500m before winning silver in the 800m on the final day of competition.

Looking to consolidate and further build on her performances at the World Championships, de Rozario has been selected to compete in the T54 1500m event on the Gold Coast in April.
