GC2018 | Parker Earns Commonwealth Games Selection

Western Australian boxer Caitlin Parker has today been confirmed as the state’s first officially selected athlete for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

The 21 year-old will represent Australia in the women’s 75kg class and was one of five females named in the 13-strong Australian boxing squad that will compete at the Oxenford Studios – Boxing Arena on the Gold Coast from April 5 next year.

Raised in Perth’s South-East, Parker took up boxing at 11 years of age having achieving black belt level in Tae Kwon Do.

Her prowess in boxing took a steep trajectory after she collected a silver medal at the 2014 AIBA Youth World Championships in 2014 before claiming bronze at the Youth Olympic Games in China that same year. She is also a five-time National Champion. 

Her efforts were rewarded with a scholarship from The Sport Australia Hall of Fame where she received mentorship from Australian cricket great Adam Gilchrist, whilst Parker has also benefitted from the counsel of Western Australian boxing great Danny Green.

The Perth puncher earned nomination for the Australian team after winning gold at the Commonwealth Games Selection Trials in Sydney back in November.

Parker will make her Commonwealth Games debut on the Gold Coast, with competition scheduled for preliminary rounds from April 5 through to the medal round on April 14.
