#Glasgow2014: Samardali’s Glasgow Campaign Ended

Published On: 30 July 2014

Western Australian boxer Jordan Samardali had his 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games medal hopes ended in the quarter finals following a TKO defeat at the hands of Mauritian Kennedy St Pierre.

With a Commonwealth medal assured with progression to the semi final stage, Samardali was unable to withstand the power of his 21 year-old opponent, with the fight ended in the first round after he was knocked down 43 seconds in.

Standing at 181cm and at 81kg, Port Louis born St Pierre caught Samardali with a right hand cross that felled the West Australian, with the referee opting to end the fight.

Samardali was competing in his first Commonwealth Games, and had earlier won split decision bouts over Saint Lucian Ryan Charles and Samoan Afaese Fata Kalepi to reach the quarter finals.

The 20 year-old qualified for Glasgow after winning a national title at the championships held in Fremantle in May.
