WAIS athletes will line up in the Hockeyroos, Kookaburras, Diamond’s and men’s beach volleyball teams in the gold medal matches at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

Women’s Hockey

The Hockeyroos are looking to return to the top step of the podium, however to do so they must defeat hosts England. They have looked dominant throughout the tournament, though survived a shootout against India in the semifinal to make it here. Karri Somerville, Penny Squibb, Aleisha Power, Georgia Wilson and Shanea Tonkin will line up chasing gold.

Men’s Beach Volleyball

In his first Commonwealth Games, Paul Burnett is paired with defending champion Chris McHugh. After dispatching Rwanda 2-0 in the semifinal the pair will face Canadian duo Sam Schachter and Daniel Dearing.

Women’s Netball

The Diamonds are a step away from reclaiming Commonwealth Games gold after falling agonizingly short on the Gold Coast four years ago. The Diamonds were dominant against England in the semifinal, with Courtney Bruce starring in defence. Bruce and Sunday Aryang will be looking for gold when they again play Jamaica, who beat them by two in the pool rounds

Men’s Hockey

The Kookaburras led by co-captain Aran Zalewski survived a scare by England in the semifinal and will face India as they look to continue their unbeaten run at the Commonwealth Games. Zalewski will be joined by fellow WAIS graduates Tom Wickham and Jake Harvie.
