WAIS pole vault athletes Steve Hooker and Paul Burgess have competed at the DN Galan super grand prix in Stockholm, Sweden.

The event was held in trying conditions, with swirling breezes making clearances difficult, with the event won by Sweden’s Jesper Fritz and Maksym Mazuryk of the Ukraine at the uncharacteristically low height of 5.61m.

Steve Hooker also made the clearance at 5.61m but was relegated to third on countback after both Fritz and Mazuryk had cleared on the first attempt. WAIS athlete Paul Burgess finished sixth with a best clearance of 5.31m.

Hooker, Fritz and Mazuryk were all unsuccessful with attempts at 5.71m, as the conditions got the better of the field two weeks out from the 12th IAAF world championships in Berlin, Germany.
