Cycling Australia has named its long team for the 2014 UCI World Track Cycling Championships to be held in Cali, Columbia from February 26 – March 2.

The long team features Western Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holders Melissa Hoskins and Isabella King as part of the women’s endurance squad with Annette Edmondson, Amy Cure, Rebecca Wiasak and Ashlee Ankudinoff making up the group.

Cycling Australia has also announced a five member sprint squad and a six member men’s endurance squad, with both endurance groups to drop one athlete to form the final make up of the 2014 Australian World Championship squad.

National Performance Director Kevin Tabotta said the team would form preparation for not only a successful campaign in Cali, but towards this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and on towards Rio 2016.

“We will assemble a really solid team with genuine podium ambitions in Columbia for the World Championships,” Tabotta said. “We have a great mix of experienced and emerging talent and preparations have gone well.

“It is exciting to see both Anna Meares and Shane Perkins back and ready to race for their first World Championships since the London Olympics.”

“Both will provide great leadership to a team that will now start to shape itself for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and then also onto Rio for 2016,” Tabotta added.

Cycling Australia will finalise its squad by February 14.
