Mel Hoskins - a four times world championship medallist - is heading to this month's titles in Paris

WAIS athlete Melissa Hoskins has earned selection for the Australian track cycling team for this month’s World Championships in Paris from February 18-22.

As a bronze medallist from the 2014 titles, Hoskins will head to France in strong form after claiming a national title in the women’s points race at the recent track nationals in Melbourne.

Her selection in the women’s endurance squad will see the 23 year-old feature in the women’s team pursuit squad as they target a showdown with arch rivals Great Britain.

National Performance Director of the High Performance Unit for Cycling Australia – Kevin Tabotta – claimed Australia was sending a strong team to Paris, which featured a “core” of aspiring Rio 2016 candidates.

“It’s been exciting to watch the competition for spots leading into the final selection for this Australian team,” said Tabotta. “It demonstrates the great depth and quality of talent in our team for Paris, and gives encouraging signs for the future of Australian track cycling.”

“As a team, our ambitions are lofty for the Worlds – and pre-competition performance indicators are very encouraging as we head Tuesday to Paris.

“This team represents the core of the athlete pool vying for the limited spots available for the Rio Olympics team in 2016,” said Tabotta. “After these Worlds, there will be just three World Cups and one World Championships for all athletes to qualify and stake a claim for selection.
