The WAIS Cyclists have come away from the 2016 Cycling Australia Omnium in mid-December with an impressive trifecta of silver medals.

Six athletes travelled to the Adelaide Super-Drome to compete in a series of events that test both their speed and endurance including a scratch race, individual pursuit, elimination, time trial and finally a flying lap.

After placing 2nd at the Junior World Championship the previous year Sam Welsford took the silver medal for the Senior Men’s division placing first in his last two races for a strong finish with team mate Darcy Pirotta finished 9thin that division.

Senior Women didn’t disappoint either with Elissa Wundersitz building pressure throughout the Omnium to earn a silver medal for her efforts including an impressive first place finish in her flying lap.

The Under 19’s Women’s saw solid performances with Jade Haines finishing second overall in Women’s after placing in the top three for the majority of her races and Niken Jeffries placing 8th.

Craig Wiggins finished 14th in a competitive U19’s Men’s division.

Some excellent results for the WAIS Cycling group who return to training to prepare for a busy 2016.
