Beveridge scored 25 points on debut

WAIS netball athlete Kate Beveridge made an impressive international debut for Australia last night, shooting 25 goals in their win over New Zealand in Christchurch.

Australia secured a 53-51 win at the Westpac Arena in the first clash between the Trans-Tasman rivals since Australia claimed the world title against New Zealand last year.

Beveridge reinforced her status as a star of the future, shooting with an 89 percent success rate, downing 25 of her 28 attempts. Beveridge played against Casey Williams who was crowned the player of the Trans-Tasman Championships recently, but showed she could more than match it in the international arena.

Australian coach Norma Plummer was full of praise for Beveridge, following the Diamonds success in New Zealand.

“To see young Kate Beveridge go out and have the belief that she could really turn on such a fantastic performance for her first game ever at this level I was just delighted,” Plummer said.

Australia will play New Zealand in the second Test Match in Auckland on Saturday.
