Rio anyone? Katrina Porter will compete in Brazil

Fresh from breaking a world record at the Australian National Short Course Championships in Hobart last month, WAIS scholarship holder Katrina Porter has booked her place on the Australian team for the IPC World Short Course Championships in Rio de Janerio.

Porter’s selection was based on her performances at the Telstra Australian Short Course Championships in Hobart, Tasmania last month, where she won gold and broke the SC World Record in her pet event, the 100m Backstroke.

Porter is fast building an impressive list of passport stamps, after she broke a world record in the same event at last year’s Beijing Paralympics, before moving to Rome where she lived for six months.

The 20 year-old – who is coached by WAIS swimming mentor Mel Tantrum – will be a firm favourite for a medal in Brazil as she continues to build a resume that has seen her compete all over the world.

The World Championships will be held in Brazil from 29 November to 5 December 2009.
