There was disappointment for the men's lightweight four

WAIS rowing scholarship holder Ross Brown and his men’s lightweight four crew have finished third in their repechage at the World Rowing Championships in Poland.

The result has eliminated the crew from the semi-final stage, were they will instead compete in the lower semi-final races.

Through 1000m the Australian crew sat just behind Switzerland in second place, with Canada in third. The Canadians moved past Australia just short of the 1500m mark and claimed second place. Switzerland won the repechage in 6:02.59, with Canada 13 hundredths of a second further back and Australia crossing the line in 6:04.93.

The men’s lightweight four crew of Angus Tyers (VIC), Brown, Tom Bertrand (VIC) and Darryn Purcell (QLD) will chase a place in the C Final.

They will face New Zealand, China and Indonesia with the top three progressing to the C Final.

AIS-WAIS rowers Libby Alderman and Emily Rose will compete in the final of the women’s four on Saturday.
