Lindorff Earns U23 Road Race Title in Tasmania
Tyler Lindorff enjoyed an excellent campaign at the Oceania Road Championships in Tasmania last weekend, taking out the U23 title in the men’s road race.
Lindorff – who will celebrate just his 19thbirthday this week – showed a full display of his talent to finish ninth overall in the men’s elite field, which followed a fourth place effort in the earlier U23 time trial.
As a first year U23 and competing against a quality elite men’s field that included the likes of WA veteran Michael Freiberg – his achievements cannot be understated.
The Winthrop resident was a member of Australia’s Junior Road World Championships team in 2018 and it appears the experienced gleaned has set him up well as he graduates through the age groups.
His results across the year in 2018, saw him nominated for the WAIS Junior Athlete of the Year.
He was just over 10 seconds shy of a podium place in the time trial, but would not be denied a second time in the road race.
He managed to keep himself towards the front bunch throughout and produced impressive turns of speed when it mattered most.
The results will have put him in the sights of national selectors for the 2019 UCI Road World Championships, but Australia does boast a glut of high quality road riders, with Western Australian cyclists Jai Hindley and Michael Storer prime examples of the existing depth of talent nationally.
However if he can continue posting results such as the ones evidenced in Tasmania, he will give the selectors plenty to mull. There appears little doubt that Lindorff is set to follow in the path of so many elite road cyclists who have prospered from this state before him.
