Luke Durbridge has finished 13th in the elite men’s time trial at the 2019 UCI Road World Championships in Yorkshire, England.

The current Australian National Champion, one of two WA represntatives in the Australian Team for the Championships. Durbridge’s experience as the former junior and under 23 world champion were important on the tough and technical Yorkshire course with weather a key factor across the competition so far.

As the 28th of of nearly 60 starters the 28-year-old from Greenmount set the benchmark time half way in to the competition. Having covered the 54 kilometre course in one hour and five minutes Durbridge’s time was only beatn by the closing riders, with his time less than a minute outside a top five finish.

Fellow Australia Rohan Dennis claimed gold for the second year in a row with a dominating ride to finish more than a minute clear of the silver medallist from Belgium, Remco Evenepoel.

Durbridge now turns his attention to Sunday’s road race and will play a supporting role for Michael Matthews. Jessica Allen will line up in the women’s road race on Saturday.
