Maddison Keeney makes return to world stage with bronze at 2022 FINA World Championships

WAIS Graduate Maddison Keeney has made a successful return to international competition winning bronze in the women’s 3 metre synchronised at the 2022 FINA World Championships in Budapest.

A World Champion from the 2019 World Championships and a Rio Olympic medallist, Keeney missed the Tokyo Olympic Games with injury.

Keeney and partner Anabelle Smith started strong in the competition easily booking a spot in the final, where they continued their form.

Consistent diving by the pair with eights and eight point fives in four of the five rounds, saw them finish on 294.12 point, nine off the silver medal.

At her first World Championships fellow WAIS Graduate Nikia Hains finished 10th in the women’s 10 metre platform.

Keeney and Hains now turn their attention to the Commonwealth Games.
