Mainstone is headed for Guam

WAIS open water swimmer Rhys Mainstone (Duncraig) has qualified for the Junior Pan Pacs after a second place finish in the 10km open water event in Sydney recently.

The NSW round of Swimming Australia’s Grand Prix Series was held at the Penrith Regatta Centre in Sydney on Sunday.

The round, which doubled as the NSW State Championships, saw WAIS Open Water Swimmer Rhys Mainstone compete for a place at next month’s Junior Pan Pacs to be held in Guam.

In a sprint to the finish, Mainstone managed to place second, resulting in his selection for the 10km event in Guam. The top three were separated by less than a second in an incredible finale.

Mainstone will now join fellow WAIS and City of Perth swimmer Blair Evans and coach Matt Magee on the Team bound forGuam – his first selection on an Australian representative Team.

The five-day Junior Pan Pacs (Guam, January 8-12) and The Australian Youth Olympic Festival (Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, January 15-18) are pathways to Australia’s senior Telstra Dolphins Teams.
