Open Water Swimmer Rhys Mainstone comes out victorious in the 2013 BHP Billiton Aquatic Super Series Open Water Challenge this past Sunday.

Finishing the 10km swim with a time of 1:51:31.19, Mainstone managed to leave the other swimmers behind and emerge from the water almost two minutes before anyone else. Second out of the water was English Channel record holder Trent Grimsey with the time of 1:53:18.48.

Even though the race included international superstars, the purpose of Mainstone’s entry was to help him in his preparation for World Championship trials which will be held three weeks from now in NSW.

“Rhy’s focus is on World Championship trials which are in NSW in three weeks,” explained coach Mel Tantrum. “The point was to see we’re at, and it was great to see positive results.”

Mainstone will now continue his preparations towards trials which will be held at Point Wolstoncroft Sport and Recreation Centre on Lake Macquarie from the 8th- 10th February 2013.
