Swan River Rowing Club member Sam Marsh has earned selection in the single scull for the World Rowing U23 Championships in Poland.

The 22 year-old will compete at World U23 level for the second time after being a member of the Australian men’s coxed four in 2017.

Marsh and an Australian women’s eight crew were added to the previously selected crews to compete at the Championships which will be held in Poznan between July 25-29.

WAIS program coach Rhett Ayliffe will oversee Marsh’s preparation, adding to his roles with the women’s pair crew of West Aussies Giorgia Patten and Bronwyn Cox and the lightweight women’s double scull crew of Verayna Zilm (SA) and Georgina Masters (NSW).

The Australian team currently boasts 22 athletes and Rowing Australia Deputy Performance Director Jaime Fernandez said, “It’s fantastic that the selectors have been able to select two additional crews to compete at the World Rowing U23 Championships next month.”

“We currently have a strong team of nine crews, which could grow to 10 by the end of next week, and we’re looking forward to preparing the crews in the coming weeks both here in Australia and then in Italy at the AIS European Training Centre ahead of the regatta in Poland.

The squad may potentially be further bolstered by the addition of a men’s coxed four crew pending further trials.
