AIS-WAIS scholarship holders Libby Alderman and Emily Rose have qualified as part of the women’s four crew for Saturday’s final, where the Australian crew is in contention for medal success.

The women’s four crew of Sophia Robson (VIC), Alderman, Laura Osti (SA) and Rose raced for lanes for the final due to only six entries for the regatta.

They finished third in the race in a time of 7:20.95. The Netherlands won the race by a length from USA, while Australia was just over a length further back.

Australia will consider itself capable of backing up this performance and pushing for a medal on Saturday.

In day four action, WAIS scholarship holder Ross Brown will compete in the repechage of the men’s lightweight four.

Angus Tyers (VIC), Brown, Tom Bertrand (VIC) and Darryn Purcell (QLD) finished fourth in their heat in what is always a very competitive boat class.

The crew will race from lane five where Switzerland will be expected to advance given the times rowed in the heats, which will leave Australia in a battle with Canada and Belgium for the remaining place.
