WAIS cyclist Travis Meyer has earned a fourth place finish at the Tour de Perth last weekend, in the first round of the National Road Series.

Riding for professional road team Drapac, Meyer finished 33 seconds behind tour winner Joe Cooper of the Avanti Racing Team, with the title, the New Zealander’s second in succession in Perth.

The four stage event was made up of an opening stage criterium (45km) in Fremantle, before a 110km road race in the hills of Kalamunda on day two. Stage three consisted of a 20km time trial on Rottnest Island, before culminating with a second road race (114km) around a Perry Lakes circuit.

At the culmination of the Tour de Perth, Meyer currently sits fourth in the National Road Series Aggregate with nine points for his fourth place finish. Cooper leads the board with 15 points, whilst Tim Roe (13) and Mitchell Lovelock-Fay (9) remain close behind.

17 year-old WAIS scholarship holder Matt Storer was also highly impressive in the Tour de Perth, riding his way to a 19th GS finish, which was enough for him to claim the Young Rider Classification, despite giving away several years experience to many of his competitors in the U23 category.

The NRS moves on to Adelaide for the second round, with the Adelaide Tour contested from April 3-6.
