Meyer Takes London Six-Day Title with Scotson

Track cycling star Cameron Meyer has claimed a title win at the London Six Day series partnering fellow Aussie Callum Scotson.

The duo bettered their third place effort from 2016 to finish ahead of Brits, Mark Cavendish and Peter Kennaugh.

Meyer toasted the success in the same week he was nominated as one of 10 athletes in contention for the WAIS Athlete of the Year award.

The Six Day format is focused on the Madison event – challenging riders to race various instalments of the two-man discipline, spread over six days of racing.

Meyer and Scotson teamed to win a silver medal at the Track World Championships earlier in 2017, with the event – named after the iconic Madison Square Gardens venue in New York – confirmed on the competition roster at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

In a career that’s spanned both road and track competition, Meyer – an eight time world champion – said he is relishing the return to the Velodrome, having spent several seasons focusing on road commitments before re-commencing in late 2016.

“I’m loving my track cycling again,” Meyer told the Six Day official website.

“I’ve got some big targets over the next three years and I’m sure I’ll meet these guys again,” he said of the Cavendish/Kennaugh partnership.

“Possibly at an Olympic Games now that the Madison is back in, so it’s going to be big three years and I can’t wait for what’s ahead.”
