WAIS netballers continue to impress locally and nationally

Four WAIS netball athletes spent last week attending national camps in Canberra with two earning selection to the Australian 19 and Under team after impressive performances.

Ellie Smart was WAIS’s sole representative at the 17 and Under national camp, while Mia Washbourne, Sarah East and Sarah Tatam all took park in the 19 and Under version.

The WAIS quartet all acquitted themselves well throughout a challenging program, with Washbourne and East excelling. The duo were rewarded for their performances with selection in the Australian 19 and Under side which then took on the AIS netball team in a series of friendlies.

Washbourne and East backed up their efforts in the nation’s capital with an outstanding game for the WAIS Smarter than Smoking Premier League team on Tuesday night.

WAIS took on Central West Lions and thanks to strong matches from Washbourne in defence and East in attack the side recorded a 52-41 victory. Victory cements the WAIS line up’s finals position as the season draw close to a conclusion.
