No Height Ends WA Pole Vault Duo’s Junior Worlds Campaign

Both WAIS pole vaulters competing at the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland have missed qualifying for the women’s final after no-heighting on the opening day of competition.

Nina Kennedy was drawn in Group A of qualifying and entered competition at 3.95m. Unfortunately for the former Junior World Record holder, she missed each of her three attempts and exited competition.

Emma Philippe followed in Group B, entering competition at 3.80m but similarly couldn’t negotiate the opening height to bow out.

Swede Lisa Gunnarsson and American Rachel Baxter are amongst the favourites for the final, with both qualifying safely.

WA 400m hurdles runner Alana Yukich earned direct qualification through to the semi finals, after clocking 59.54secs in her heat.

Western Australian triple jumper Julian Konle finished 20th in qualifying, missing the final, following a best effort of 15.60m.

WA’s fifth member on the Australian Spark squad, middle distance runner Matthew Ramsden, finished fifth in his heat of the 1500m and ill contest the final.
