Kayaker Jaime Roberts recently made the A Final of the women’s K2 200 at World Cup 1 in Poland paddling with Queensland’s Brianna Massie.

The duo had only been in training together for a short period of time after Massie received a late call up for the Australian World Cup team.

Despite this, they showed good application to qualify for an A Final where they then fought hard to finish in ninth place in a competitive field.

Their time of 38.870sec was just over a second down on World Cup winners Slovenia, who finished ahead of two home nation crews from Poland.

Roberts and Massie also tackled the K2 500 event where they finished fourth in their heat, which took them through to the semis where a seventh place finish missed out on a final.

The Australian team will next compete at World Cup 2 in Duisburg, Germany where Roberts will move back into the women’s K4 500 boat.

The Australian team are trialling combinations in the women’s K4 500 boat across the World Cup series with a view to identifying the best combination for this year’s World Championships which will be held in Hungary in August.

In Poland, the Australian women’s K4 500 crew of Alyssa Bull, Alyce Burnett, Cat McArthur and Jo Brigden-Jones finished second in the B Final for an 11th overall ranking.
