Seven West Australian rowers will form part of the National Training Centre intake for 2019/20.

The men’s and women’s training centres are located at separate facilities, with the men’s program based at the Reinhold Batschi National Training Centre in Canberra, ACT, and the women’s at the Hancock Prospecting National Training Centre in Penrith, NSW.

2019 World Championship silver medallists Annabelle McIntyre (Women’s Pair and Eight) and Bronwyn Cox (Women’s Eight) were automatically invited from their world championship medals in Rotterdam, Netherlands, with the pair both winning World Cup gold and silver medals in 2019. With the pair returning to the Hancock Prospecting National Training Centre in Penrith, NSW, last month.

Joshua Hicks who claimed silver in the Men’s Pair at the World Championships and David Watts, a 2018 worlds medallist, who narrowly missed a medal this year finishing fourth were part of the initial selection for the Reinhold Batschi Men’s National Training Centre in Canberra.

The National Training Centre Testing Camp held between 30 September and 4 October saw invitations extended to another three West Australian rowers to join the National Training Centres.

2019 Under 23 World Championship silver medallist Giorgia Patten will head Penrith, later in the year following completion of exams. It is the second year in a row rising star Patten has been extended an invitation, and last year delayed relocation for a further year, to focus on her academic balance whilst still training with WAIS.

24-year-old Jack Cleary, a former 23 World Championship medallist returns to the National Training Centre for another year having spent much of the last year recovering from injury.

Rounding out the West Australian’s is Lilly Tinapple who has been invited for a second year having competed in the women’s Pair at 2019 World Rowing Cup II and II earlier this year.
