Six Western Australian rowers have been named in the Australian Rowing Team to contest the 2020 World Rowing Cups 2 and 3 and the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta in May.

2019 World Championship silver medallists Annabelle McIntyre and Bronwyn Cox have been named in the women’s sweep squad along with recent graduate and 2019 under 23 world championship medallist Giorgia Patten.

Josh Hicks who claimed bronze at the 2019 World Championships in the coxless pair has been selected for the men’s sweep squad. While David Watts, a 2018 World Championship medallist and Jack Cleary form part of the men’s sculling squad.

“Today we are pleased to be able announce some of our squads and crews for the upcoming international events in the lead up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said Rowing Australia Performance Director, Bernard Savage.

“We have certainly identified athletes for each boat class that Australia has qualified or hopes to qualify for Tokyo, however we wish to refine our performances in the lead up to these World Rowing events before announcing these crews publically.”

The Australian Rowing Team is scheduled to open the international season at the World Rowing Cup 2 in Varese, Italy, 1-3 May. The Final Olympic Qualification Regatta and World Rowing Cup 3 will be held in Lucerne, Switzerland 17-19 May, and 22-24 May.

Australia has qualified eight boats for the Tokyo Olympic Games and will look to qualify an additional four boats at the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta.
