Six WAIS rowers in line for Olympic selection after being named in the 2021 Australian Rowing Team.

The women’s sweep squad includes dual 2019 World Championship medallist Annabelle McIntyre, 2019 World Championship medallist Bronwyn Cox and under 23 World Championship medallist Giorgia Patten.

Jack Cleary has been named in the men’s quadruple scull section, with David Watts selected in the sculling squad, which will support the men’s quadruple and double scull teams. Josh Hicks has been picked for the men’s coxless pair.

Rowing Australia Performance Director, Bernard Savage, said, “We are pleased to be able announce our squads and crews that will prepare as the Australian Rowing Team, in Australia, this year.

“We are really positive about the athletes and crews that have been selected today, and this has been an important step on the way towards Tokyo. Over the coming months we will work to refine our strategy and thinking in the lead up to the Games before nominating our crews to the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) and Paralympics Australia (PA).”

Due to COVID-19 and travel restrictions, Rowing Australia has decided not to send athletes to compete at the 2021 World Rowing Cups, however the organisation is looking to send four crews to the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta scheduled for 15 to 17 May in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Selections for the Australian Olympic Team for Tokyo will be announced in due course.
